D Acres of NH Permaculture Farm and Educational Homestead Dorchester New Hampshire

Offering indoor and outdoor overnight accommodations, D Acres is a non-profit permaculture farm and sustainability center located in Dorchester, NH in the heart of the White Mountains. We are ideally suited for four-season recreation and educational farm-based experiences, and are pleased to offer an on-site trails system as well as nearby swimming holes & waterways. Less than 10 miles from the Rumney rock climbing Crag, and within an hour from Franconia Notch, D Acres is the perfect destination for rock climbers, hikers, river adventurers, skiers, and Northcountry sightseers.

During their stay, guests can tour the working organic farm which features four acres of cultivated annual and perennial gardens, livestock, sustainable forestry, and woodworking activities. We are a community-based organization that offers educational workshops in gardening, forestry, renewable energy, animal husbandry, construction, hand crafts, culinary arts and more! D Acres also hosts community food events such as potlucks, open mics, breakfast open houses, as well as music, theater and dance performance. We’d love to have you join us for any of these public events.

The farm has many examples of sustainable technology. Photovoltaic electric panels supply electricity from the sun and solar panels augment the wood boiler that provides the hot water for heating and domestic hot water. Compost toilets, root cellar, and wood fired ovens are utilized onsite. There are many domestic animals on the farm including oxen, ducks, chickens, and pigs.

Dinner and breakfast are always available at the farm upon request. The majority of our fare is grown on-site, so meals are as organic and locally grown as possible. Growing food is a large part of what we do, and we love to share the results with the public. A meal at the farm is more than just a full plate, it is a story and an experience as well.

There are many recreation opportunities in the area. There are many miles of cross country skiing and snowshoeing trails accessible from the property. Mountain and road biking opportunities abound as well as river rafting and canoe travel.

As to accommodations, we offer a variety of options for travelers and outdoor enthusiasts. There is both outdoor camping and indoor sleeping space available. Indoor accommodations are in our community building, and include a choice of private bedrooms or a large shared space in the “yoga” room. Pricing ranges from $10 per person for camping to private rooms available for less than $70. The bathrooms and communal kitchen are modern and can accommodate large groups. We can offer the space for weekend and day-long retreats that provide the accommodations for a superb meeting environment.
